API Usage and Rate Limiting
Last updated: May 12, 2025
The VoidVerified API is exclusively intended for use by our website and the userscript created by us. It is not meant for third-party use. We implement rate limiting to ensure fair and efficient use of the API for all users.
When you interact with our API—whether directly via the website or through our userscript—your requests may be subject to limits based on volume or frequency. This helps protect the stability of our services.
As part of the rate limiting process, your IP address and request metadata (such as timestamps and headers) may be temporarily logged for security and operational purposes. These logs are not shared with third parties but are used to enforce rate limits and maintain service integrity.
If you exceed the allowed rate limits, your requests may be temporarily blocked, and you may receive a 429 Too Many Requests response.
User Identification and Authentication
In some instances, when interacting with the API, you will be required to authenticate through AniList. Once authenticated, the VoidVerified API retrieves your user ID from the connected service in order to identify you when you vote or interact with polls.
Your user ID is securely stored in a JSON Web Token (JWT), which is used for identifying and verifying requests made to the API. This token is used solely for the purpose of interacting with the VoidVerified service and is not shared with any third parties.
The user ID is collected and stored to manage your interaction with polls, ensuring that votes are linked to your account, and to enforce necessary rate limits or permissions associated with your API usage.
By using the API, you consent to the collection of your user ID for the above purposes, as well as the temporary processing of request metadata to enforce rate limits and ensure fair usage.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to enable core functionality of the website, such as user login and temporary session management (e.g., redirecting users back to the original page after logging in). These cookies do not track users across sites or store any personal data beyond what's necessary for authentication.
Access Logs
For security and operational purposes, the VoidVerified service logs access details, including your IP address, when you interact with our website and API. This information is stored temporarily to ensure the functionality and security of our services, as well as to prevent abuse, but it is not shared with any third parties.
We strive to limit the amount of personal data collected and processed, ensuring that any logs that are kept are solely for operational and security purposes.
